McDonald's: Plans submitted for new two-storey drive-thru in South Belfast

Plans for a new McDonald's restaurant and drive-thru on the outskirts of South Belfast have been submitted.

An application has been lodged for a two-storey food outlet in Newtownbreda.

The fast food giant submitted a planning proposal to the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council this month.

Documents submitted to the Council said the application forms part of a "major brand refresh" and attempts to “increase [McDonald’s] representation in certain key locations”.

The restaurant would be a freestanding or drive-thru unit which would be open 24 hours a day.

The proposed restaurant is expected to employ around 30 full and 35 part-time staff.

McDonald's do not currently have a presence in the area, with the nearest restaurant three miles away on the Saintfield Road, Castlereagh.

The application gave basic information about the proposed restaurant but now McDonald's has revealed more detailed plans in separate planning applications.

The main planning application to construct a new drive-thru restaurant with parking facilities, landscaping and associated works on land at the business park has now been submitted. The area will be fenced with timber and railings.

The new facility would also include a 103-person seating inside and an external play area for younger customers.

The dining area would include a variety of seating types and table sizes tailored to the customers' needs.

The development would be contained within an existing built up area beside the Belvoir Road and would provide complimentary facilities to the existing Tesco Extra and Tesco Filling Station and Cafe.

No objections have been lodged by a member of the public at this stage, but the plans will be heard by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council at a later date.

You can see the plans for yourself on the planning application section of their website by entering LA05/2020/1059/F.
