McDonald’s places taped sections on floors to help customers with social distancing

McDonald’s restaurants have placed taped sections on their floors to help customers with social distancing.

The fast food chain announced earlier this week that it was closing its seating areas in all of its UK restaurants in an attempt to cope with the coronavirus outbreak. In light of this, customers would only be able to take food away, visit the drive-thru or have their order delivered.

Children’s play areas have also been shut but toilets are remaining open. Now, the company has introduced a new method in a bid to encourage and help customers with social distancing.

Customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants in Swansea have noticed that the floor near the counters has been taped off into squares and walkways as a way of showing them how far they should be standing away from each other.

This comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson urged for all “non-essential contact” to stop during an announcement earlier this week. Diners are being urged to stay within the taped areas, which have been placed there to encourage social distancing.

A spokeswoman for McDonald’s said: “In light of the recent government guidance relating to social distancing, we have closed seating areas and Play Places and switched to takeaway, mobile order click and collect, drive-thru and McDelivery temporarily.

“In addition, restaurant teams are doing their part to educate and inform around the government’s recommendations on maintaining a metre distance from others where possible.”
