McDonald's opens £1m drive-thru two-storey restaurant in Swansea

A new McDonald's restaurant has opened its doors for the first time next to Swansea's Morfa Retail Park.

The £1m restaurant is the first of its kind in Wales as it is both a drive-thru and is two storeys high. It has employed 120 people, with plans to bring more on board.

Inside, it features two massive 'electronic play tables' with 10 tablet computers to keep youngsters entertained during their visit, along with an 'outdoor play place'.

It will cater for plenty of people with 100 seats inside and 50 seats outside, and there's also table service and kiosks at the new branch.

It is the sixth branch of the American fast food chain to open in the city, with the others in Penllergaer, Morriston, Cwmdu, Fabian Way and the city centre itself. There are also two restaurants in Llanelli, two in Port Talbot and one in Neath.

Group supervisor, Pippa Mounsey, said they were greeted to a queue of people outside their doors before they even officially opened.

"It's been really great, we've had good feedback from customers," she said.

"We had a bit of a queue before opening and we gave prizes out to the first customer, the 50th, 100th, 200th and 300th, such as Easter eggs, chocolates and vouchers.

"Opening at Morfa has been in the pipeline for years, it's a great location next to a retail park, next to a new residential area and has really great road links. It's quite central and easy to get to."

Ms Mounsey said she had high hopes for the future of the new McDonald's.

"It's busy here, it looks great, and it's the only two storey McDonald's in Wales."
