a smaller menu will be offered as part of the social distancing rules designed to stop the spread of the new coronavirus.

The branches to open will be ...

  • Chelmsford Riverside
  • Chelmsford Westway
  • Ipswich Cardinal Park
  • Boreham Interchange
  • Luton Leagrave

  • Chaul End Lane, Luton
  • Beechings Way, Gillingham

  • Gillingham Bowaters
  • Tooting

When McDonald's does reopen, however, there'll be four new rules in place to keep customers and staff safe.

The Drive Thru will remain closed and McDonald's will only offer delivery

McDonald's has also revealed it won't be serving breakfast and will run a limited menu only.

Chief Executive Officer for McDonald’s UK and Ireland, Paul Pomroy, told customers in a statement: "On May 13 we will reopen 15 of our restaurants in the UK; this will be in a limited capacity with delivery only."

The four new rules listed on the website are as follows.

  • Perspex screens and floor markings will be introduced in specific areas
  • McDonald's will provide additional protective equipment including non-medical grade face masks
  • All employees will be asked to confirm they are fit and able to work, and McDonald's will use contactless thermometers with temperatures taken on arrival at work for every shift
  • McDonald's will also be introducing social distancing measures for all of our delivery and service partners

The website states: "As you know, McDonald’s already has high standards for cleanliness and routine cleaning of our restaurants has always been in place.

"We will increase how often these procedures are completed and provide all employees with updated training on restaurant cleanliness and sanitisation. All restaurants will be deep cleaned before reopening."
