McDonald's mozzarella sticks launch plan takes over on social media

Nov. 11--McDonald's was the big cheese on social media Wednesday.

U.S. President Mike Andres said the company will unveil mozzarella sticks at restaurants nationwide next year after testing them in a number of markets. They will cost $1 for three.

He gave the remarks at an investor presentation on Tuesday afternoon where executives spoke for four hours about the business. But all Twitter seems to be concerned with is mozzarella sticks.

Thousands of customers took to Twitter on Wednesday to talk about the planned launch.

Cassie Cunningham's comment provided a good example of the excitement: "BREAKING NEWS, BREAKING NEWS: @McDonalds will be serving mozzarella sticks for a $1. what a time to be alive!!!"

A fan Twitter account for Ellen DeGeneres even got in on the news: "PSA: McDonald's will be offering $1 Mozzarella sticks nationwide my life is complete."

User Xtina took a political angle: "Screw Donald Trump. McDonald's put $1 mozzarella sticks on the menu -- this is what's making America great again."

McDonald's has been paring down its menu to improve sales, but it has also been trying out new snack items to lure more customers in between the traditional meal hours. At just $1, the Oak Brook company is also hoping that customers will add an order onto an already planned order.
