McDonald's milkshake: I tried to find the elusive drink in Bristol amid national shortage

This is almost as unprecedented as when KFC ran out of chicken and horrified customers had to betray their loyalty to go to Burger King instead.

When I heard the news McDonald's had run out of milkshakes at 1,250 locations across Britain due to a supply chain issue, this required immediate action.

Has Bristol run out of milkshakes? Will I have to betray my custom and go elsewhere? Or will the gods look down on me and deliver me a summer drink?

As I set off in Bristol town centre, I went to the visit the Horsefair McDonald’s to see if they could deliver what many other national outlets could not.

When I walked in, it was quiet but as I went to the self-checkout to place my order, I was frankly expecting the supply chain issue to have hit Bristol, therefore my confidence wasn’t great.

I don’t know how, or why, I doubted them because as I tapped on the screen for the milkshakes, I was met with a choice: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, or banana.

Well, at least one of them must have been out of stock or disrupted through the supply chain, I thought, so I clicked on each one to double check.

Success, as they were all available to order, so now I just had to pick one, I couldn’t be greedy and pick all four as I didn’t want to be responsible for another supply chain issue.

I opted for banana, which surely has to the elite milkshake, and added it to the basket. I'd successfully paid for a product that I thought would have been out of reach today.

As I went to collect my order, I had in my hands what is an illusive product in other parts of the country, and went to sit down to make sure I didn’t spill any of the forbidden milkshake.

After the first sip, there were no supply issues with the taste, that’s for sure.

The banana milkshake tasted exactly as I remember it, but with a hint of relief.

For now, one McDonald's in Bristol is saved from the issues affecting the rest of the country.

Go and make the most of it whilst you can.
