McDonald's menu shake-up: Six items axed, including £3.79 quarter pounders

As if this week's milkshake meltdown wasn't enough, fast food fans now have a McDonald's menu makeover to get used to.

Maccie D's has revealed that six items are to be axed from its offerings, including the popular £3.79 quarter pounders.

The chain has cut garlic cheese bites and Twix McFlurries, as well as BBQ quarter pounders with cheese (both single and double sizes), Mars McFlurries and the McSpicy.

But the axed items are being replaced by six new offerings.

McDonald's has confirmed it is bringing back the Big Tasty - a burger containing a beef patty, Emmental cheese, tomato, lettuce, onions, and the Big Tasty sauce, in a sesame seed bun. The Big Tasty with bacon is also making a comeback.

The Chicken BBQ Smokehouse will also return. It is made up of two chicken fillets, BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, smoked bacon, onion, lettuce, tomato and onion relish in a ciabatta bun.

Mozzarella dippers will also make a comeback.

And two new desert items will be on offer, the Cadbury Milk Chocolate McFlurry and Cadbury Caramel McFlurry.

The menu overhaul comes as McDonald's, which has two restaurants in Newcastle city centre, has run out of milkshakes in all of its UK restaurants due to supply chain problems.

The burger chain has also been left without bottled drinks across its 1,250 outlets in England, Scotland and Wales.
