McDonald's lover travels 160 miles to get Big Mac - but some think he's an 'idiot'

A hungry biker went on a 160-mile round trip for a McDonald's Big Mac - but would have spent three times as much on fuel for the journey.

Chris Baker travelled 80 miles for the treat when he became aware the fast food giant had reopened stores for takeaway customers.

He enjoyed the burger and a coffee before travelling the 80 miles from the branch in Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, Kent, back home in Horsham, West Sussex.

It is understood the fuel alone - around £14 - costs around three times as much as a Big Mac meal with coffee.

Speaking after travelling the epic distance on Wednesday, Mr Baker told the Sittingbourne News newspaper: "I'm a great Big Mac fan."

But locals questioned whether the trip was a "necessary" journey.

One Twitter user posted: "160 miles for a Big Mac - what an idiot."

Another said: "I hope this guy realises he put himself and others at risk just for a stupid hamburger."

Councillor Mike Whiting, of Kent County Council, said he reported traffic issues to the authorities after spotting huge queues in the past week.

He said: "I have reported traffic issues outside McDonald's in Bobbing to the police on residents' behalf.

"Hopefully, they can do something to alleviate that."

"The amount of litter in such a short time is unacceptable. Perhaps the police should be there catching offenders, too?"

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were aware of traffic issues following the reopening of a restaurant.

"Congestion is not a police issue but we have liaised with the restaurant and local authority to help resolve these issues."
