McDonald’s launches millionaire’s shortbread frappes and iced lattes

McDonald's has just announced that it's about to start selling the summer drink of our dreams: a frappe that tastes like millionaire's shortbread and classic iced lattes.

Appearing to take on big coffee chains like Starbucks with its two new releases, there's one big difference between McDonald's new drinks and the coffeehouse's counterparts: the price.

As fast food giant McDonald's has decided to sell their new ice coffee for £1.99, and the Millionaire's frap for a slightly steeper £2.59 - both considerably cheaper than Starbucks.

While the two food chains may not seem like direct rivals, both Starbucks and McDonald's are both some of the biggest players in the UK coffee market, so the new addition to the menu marks big competition between the two.

Considering iced coffees have been a staple menu item for McDonald's in the likes of America and China for the last decade, it's surprising that it's taken so long for McDonald's UK to add them to their repertoire.

Perfect to indulge in alongside our obligatory nuggets, the two new drinks may be launching just in time for summer, but will apparently be available all year round.

Compared to Starbucks where a Tall Iced Coffee Latte will set you back £2.70 a pop, the new iced latter is 71p cheaper at McDonald's.

Meanwhile at Costa, a Primo Iced Latte is £2.55, making McDonalds' version still a solid 56p cheaper.

As for the frappes, Starbucks' Caramel Frappuccino costs £3.50 - 99p more than McDonald's drink while Costa's Salted Caramel Crunch Frostino costs £3.45 - making it 96p more expensive.

Both drinks have already hit McDonald's branches all across the UK, meaning you can get your hands on them today if you need a sugar or coffee-filled pick-up.
