McDonald's launches investigation after alleged incident in Yate branch

McDonald's has launched an investigation after a young transgender person was allegedly discriminated against by its staff.

A post has circulated online hitting out at what the poster described as the "bullying attitudes" of the fast food chain's staff, following an alleged incident at its branch in Yate Shopping Centre.

The post was shared more than 100 times, but had since been deleted.

In it, a man claimed his partner witnessed staff discriminate against a customer due to the way they were dressed during the incident on August 12.

The manager at the Yate branch told Bristol Live they were unable to comment at this stage.

However, a spokesperson for McDonald's said: "Discrimination of any kind has no place in our restaurants or business.

"We take these allegations extremely seriously and the restaurant has immediately opened an investigation.

"We work hard to create an inclusive environment for all of our customers and employees, and have a Diversity and Inclusivity policy which we expect all of our people to fully adhere to.

“Our restaurants are visited by a wide range of communities. We welcome trans customers and are committed to ensuring that all our customers feel welcome.

"We will not tolerate behaviour in our restaurants that is discriminatory, threatening or transphobic.”
