McDonald's issues urgent warning to all drive-thru customers

Over the course of the week, McDonald's has reopened hundreds of its drive-thrus in the UK.

In a bid to control the numbers of people visiting its restaurants, the fast food chain has been releasing full lists of the locations of branches which have reopened on a daily basis - but it's not stopped shoppers from rushing to their local McDonald's.

Yesterday, the Elk Mill Retail Park branch in Royton was closed by police, after long queues formed, which led up to the Elk Mill roundabout and on Broadway.

As a result of the long traffic queues, some shoppers have been asking if they can walk to pick up their food, instead of driving.

Responding to the question, McDonald's has issued an important message to anybody planning to visit one of its drive-thrus in the coming days.

June 4 - McDonalds release latest Drive Thru's opening today

"You cannot walk through our drive-thru's due to health and safety risks. Through our website and social media channels, we will confirm the locations of the reopening restaurants on each morning from 2nd June," McDonald's wrote on Twitter.

It might be tempting to walk, but if you don't have access to a car, don't go to McDonald's drive-thrus. They have rules in place to keep diners and restaurant staff safe, so follow them. They're called drive-thrus for a reason, people!
