McDonald's issues apology after Eat Out To Help Out customers are left 'disappointed'

As Monday rolls around once again, so too does the Eat Out to Help Out scheme - meaning half price food across many of our favourite chains.

Restaurants and food chains like Nando's, KFC, Pizza Hut and Subway are all taking part in the scheme, which means diners can get 50 per cent off their bills from Monday to Wednesday.

McDonald's is also taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme - much to the delight of its biggest fans.

However, not everyone is best pleased with having to sit inside to get cheaper food.

Posting on Twitter, one disgruntled customer said: "McDonald’s offering 50% off but only if you eat in the restaurant. Ok encourage more people to gather. Not to mention you need to clean more & need more staff. JUST DO IT IN DRIVE THROUGH. @McDonaldsUK."

McDonald's has since responded to the tweet, and has explained that customers being required to dine in instead of using its drive thrus or takeaway services to get a discount is a Government rule, and not one brought in by the chain.

The official McDonald's account wrote: "Hi Danny, thanks for contacting us.

"This scheme is run by the government, we are simply participating to give our customer's the opportunity for the discount. It was not McDonald's that set the rules to be eat in only.

"Nonetheless, apologies for any disappointment."

The Eat Out to Help Out rules

  • 50% discount on food or non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in (up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner)
  • Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between August 3 and 31
  • As many times as you like
  • You do not need a voucher
  • There is no minimum spend
  • You cannot claim discount on alcoholic drinks or service charges
  • All diners in a group of any size can use the discount
