McDonald's is finally adding the double quarter pounder with cheese to its menu

It's been eight long years of waiting, but finally all that petitioning has paid off, as McDonald's has decided to bring back its double quarter pounder with cheese.

Hitting all the fast food chain's branches across the UK and Ireland from August 7th, the double quarter pounder with cheese is already a big hit in America, and now Brits can finally get a slice of the action back after the burger was culled from UK menus eight years ago.

The downside? It's only going to be available for the next seven weeks.

If you've not tried one before, the supersize burger consists of two hefty beef patties, paired with two slices of cheese, plus the obligatory gherkins, onions, ketchup and mustard.

Costing £4.29 by itself or £5.79 as a medium meal with chips and a drink, before today's announcement customers have been forced to concoct the indulgent dish themselves using McDonald's secret menu. Although doing so that way will set you back a hefty £6.98.

If you wanted to make it a meal, the secret menu route would cost a whopping £8.76 altogether if paired with a small coke and fries, meaning the new addition is set to save double quarter pounder lovers a lot of cash.

Containing 750 cals and 20g saturated fat in total, it's certainly not for the faint hearted, although we'd probably still have room for a McFlurry for pudding...

The new meaty addition is joined on the menu by two new McFlurries: Twix and Mars, which are also limited edition, ending on the same September 24th date.
