McDonald's has reopened four takeaways in Bury

Four McDonald's branches in Bury have reopened their drive-thrus this morning.

The fast food giant announced earlier that its outlets at Woodfields Retail Park, Pilsworth, Radcliffe and Whitefield would all reopen to customers at 11am.

However, the branch on The Rock will remain closed for now.

Customers will only be able to choose from a limited menu of items, with just one order per car and purchases capped at £25.

It is more than two months since McDonald's decided to completely shut all of its UK restaurants as the coronavirus outbreak worsened.

In May, the chain announced that it would be reopening 15 restaurants for delivery only.

Yesterday, 68 of McDonald's UK branches reopened, including four in Bolton.

All 924 drive-thrus in the UK are set to reopen by tomorrow (June 4) in line with government guidelines and with strict social distancing measures in place.

There were reports of waits of up to an hour-and-a-half at one McDonald's in Astley Bridge as hundreds of drivers queued up to get their fix.

To manage anticipated demand, McDonald's said it will be releasing the locations of the reopening restaurants on the morning of each day.

Announcing the changes, McDonald's said: "This is only possible following the hard work of the teams in our 44 pilot restaurants.

"Over the last fortnight, our employees, franchisees and suppliers have worked tirelessly to implement new procedures to enable safe working so that we can now help all parts of the UK and Ireland to enjoy the return of the Big Mac."
