McDonald's hack gets you two free hot drinks instead of one through its loyalty scheme

McDonald’s fans can use a clever hack to effectively get two hot drinks instead of just one through the fast food chain.

The burger giant is revamping its McCafe loyalty scheme so you can no longer collect stickers on the side of your coffee cup.

Instead, thirsty diners will only be able to collect virtual stamps through the free My McDonald’s app.

But there is a perk to this - as instead of needing six real-life stamps to get your seventh hot drink free, you’ll only need to collect five virtual stamps through the app, which will give you your sixth drink free.

McDonald’s will stop producing the paper stamps on the side of hot drinks from July, with the fast food chain expecting to have them all out of circulation by the end of the month.

So from next month, you’ll only be able to collect stamps digitally via the app.

McDonald's is changing its McCafe loyalty scheme (McDonald's)

But until this comes into play, McDonald’s has confirmed to The Mirror that it is possible to collect both your physical stamps and digital stamps on the app at the same time.

This means for one drink, you can in effect collect two stamps - one paper and one virtual - for every hot drink you buy.

This means you’re doubling up on your stamps - and you'll get two free hot drinks at the same time it would’ve previously taken to get just one.

You would get your free hot drink through the app first, as this only requires five stamps instead of six physical tokens.

But when you claim this free drink, you’ll get the last paper stamp you need to redeem that final sixth token to get another free beverage.

Of course, this trick will only work for the remainder of this month and will stop once Maccies no longer produces the physical stamps.

We’ve asked McDonald’s how long it will continue to accept the paper stamps for and we’ll update this article when we know more.

Maccies fans pick up one stamp on all regular-sized hot drinks in the McCafe menu.

Hot drink prices vary depending on the branch and the drink, but normally you can expect to pay 99p for a tea or a hot chocolate and £1.49 for a cappuccino or latte.
