McDonald's fans upset after biting into the Chicken Big Mac for the first time

The Chicken Big Mac was placed back on the McDonald's menu today, but fans are already bitterly disappointed. The burger made a brief appearance on the menu last year but was discontinued in March 2022.

Upon hearing the news that the Chicken Big Mac would be returning today, many Maccies fans took to social media to share their delight upon its return.

On Twitter, Lis said: "Chicken Big Mac is back my day has been made." Jace tweeted: "Chicken Big Mac was surprisingly really good. Prefer it to the meat version."

Parz tweeted: "The chicken Big Mac is amazing" while Anni exclaimed: "THE CHICKEN BIG MAC IS OUT IN THE UK! I REPEAT THE CHICKEN BIG MAC IS OUT!!!"

However, not everyone was so enthusiastic about it. Many other comments called for the return of breakfast bagels instead, and some people recommended McDonald’s create some new styles of burgers instead of bringing back old ones.

One Twitter user said: "I tried the Chicken Big Mac today and was disappointed. The McChicken patty shouldn’t be smeared in Big Mac sauce. It’s just so wrong. And with pickles? No, just no. Leave the McChicken alone!" Prairie fairy tweeted: "PSA chicken Big Mac absolute dogs***, don’t waste ur cash."

Having never tried the Chicken Big Mac, we decided to see whether or not it was worth Maccies bringing it back to menus across the UK.

Naturally, we also bought the original Big Mac to see which one would come out the winner.

Here’s what we rated each:

The Chicken Big Mac, which costs £4.49 in its own, is definitely underwhelming. When it came out of the box, it looked pretty miserable and definitely in comparison with the beef version, it didn’t look as tasty.

It features the original's iconic triple layered bun – plus two 100% chicken breast patties in a crispy coating, a slice of cheese, lettuce, pickles, and is slathered in iconic Big Mac sauce.

It was really poorly assembled and didn’t hold together as well as the original Big Mac.

The taste was pretty average. It basically tasted like giant chicken nuggets in Big Mac sauce and gherkins.

However, we both said (pretty much simultaneously) that we would have preferred to have eaten chicken nuggets instead, or even a regular McDonald’s chicken burger would have done the job.

In terms of value for money, you're probably better off getting the beef Big Mac as it's way nicer and if you wanted a chicken burger, we definitely advise you to get a different one than the Chicken Big Mac.

We're not the only ones that weren't impressed by the subpar burger, with many finding it upsetting that it didn't live up to the hype.

The Novice tweeted: "If you ever wanted to eat the most bland s*** ever, go to McDonald's and get yourself a Chicken Big Mac. That thing is just texture and no taste. Even the texture is bland." Makaylah said: "The Chicken Big Mac tasted like it was supposed to be beef."

James Wood said: "Chicken Big Mac = okay. I won't get another." Dave tweeted: "I’m a sucker for a promotion so let me save you some time. The Chicken Big Mac is trash."

When it comes to Big Macs, don’t fix what isn’t broken.
