McDonald's fans left fuming after fast food giant menu changes

McDonald's fans have hit out at the chain after it announced six new additions to the reduced menu - but still no popular vegetarian options.

The fast food giant said its limited menu - put in place in a bid to ensure the restaurants are Covid-safe - will be expanded from next week.

New items include a spicy quarter pounder with cheese, a McChicken BLT and nacho cheese wedges.

But the move has angered some customers who said they would rather vegetarian options returned to the menu before other "fancy additions".

Meanwhile, others said they want the full breakfast menu to brought back first.

The veggie dippers, which feature on the reduced menu, are labelled 'currently unavailable' - causing fans on social media to complain about the lack of meat-free options on offer.

One person claimed McDonald's only vegetarian options were chips and mozzarella sticks.

McDonald's has been replying to customers on  Twitter to say: "We have checks throughout our supply chain to ensure that our products maintain the highest quality.

"During these checks, we have found that a small number of our Veggie Dippers may not meet these standards and have removed these products from sale whilst we investigate."

Fans have hit out at the decision to add more meat options first, and one wrote: "Love that McDonald's can add 4 new options to their menu but fail to add back a veggie option."

A second raged: "So all McDonald's currently have all the veggie options removed from their menus. Is this a joke???"

Another added: "So they can take veggie meals off the menu but add more meat meals."

Others wanted to see original breakfast items return to the menu instead, with one saying: "I would rather they bring back the sausage and egg bagel than bring in new stuff people haven't asked for."

Another wrote: "So [McDonald's] can add all new items but yet can't add all the original items to breakfast & main meals -  don't make sense."

Explaining the reduced menu, McDonald's has said: "In order to allow for social distancing, we will have fewer employees in our kitchens and service areas and to help our smaller teams, we are offering a limited menu."
