McDonald's fans fuming with vegan dippers meal which has been branded 'horrible'

KFC, Greggs, Pizza Hut, Subway and McDonald's have all released brand new vegan products in aid of veganuary.

And while Greggs' vegan steak bake and Subway's meatless meatball marina have been hits with foodies, not everyone is so impressed by what McDonald's is offering.

The fast food chain has launched vegan dippers which are filled with red pepper rice, tomato pesto and split pea mix.

However, they've left a lot of vegans bitterly disappointed, seemingly because they contain vegetables and not a 'proper' meat-free alternative, and people have been going in on them on Twitter, ManchesterEveningNews reports.

"Greggs and KFC out here introducing proper vegan alternatives for 2020 whilst McDonalds have just taken the bread off of their much maligned smushed veg wrap and called it a new meal," said one disgruntled Twitter user.

"Why do McDonalds keep taking this bean **** making it into different shapes and rebranding it like vegetarian/vegan consumers won't notice. IT TASTES HORRIBLE," vented a third.

Another added: "Catering for vegans in 2020. Greggs: VEGAN STEAK BAKE. Subway: VEGAN MEATBALLS. KFC: VEGAN CHICKEN BURGER. McDonalds: Well, our only vegetarian burger isn’t suitable for vegans because it has mayo, are you okay to just have the goujons on their own?"

A fourth slammed: "Do McDonalds know it’s really easy to get vegan meat replacements now & you don’t just have to mush up unseasoned vegetables and put them in breadcrumbs?"

"McDonalds in Finland have a vegan big Mac called 'The McVegan', and in Amsterdam they have vegan 'Chicken' legends. I've found generally in Europe McDonald's will have something vegan that isn't beanny. UK and Ireland are always the exception," another vegan said.

"Vegan nuggets literally exist, vegans don't want even more vegetables," wrote yet another disgruntled diner.

However, there was some positive feedback, as one happy customer said: "My dreams have come true, Greggs vegan steak bake now this!!!"

"It’s great to see that you’re offering some veggie and vegan options," somebody else tweeted.

A McDonald's spokesperson told Manchester Evening News: "We are committed to understanding what our customers want from us and having seen a significant increase in orders of vegetarian options, we wanted to launch a vegan-certified product that could be a permanent menu addition.

"Our Veggie Dippers enabled us to do this quickly and effectively, and we are pleased with the positive feedback it has received."
