McDonald's fan makes chicken nuggets at home - they're 'better than real thing'

Since the Covid-19 lockdown forced McDonald's restaurants around the country to close fans of the fast food chain have been sharing recipes so we can recreate the goods at-home - and they haven't let us down so far.

There has been recipes for the breakfast muffin, Big Mac burgers and Frappes.

But now, one fan has shared how he makes McDonald's chicken nuggets.

Joshuah Nish took to TikTok to share his recipe and called it: "THE coveted MCNUGGETS".

The video has been viewed nearly 29 million times and has been liked 4.4 million times - that's a lot of McDonald's fans.

Joshuah starts off by cutting chicken breasts into small chunks and putting it in a blender.

He recommends using a grinder but says a blender works just fine (TikToc)

He says: "You can use a grinder if you have one, but I don’t have one I’m guessing a lot of you don’t have one.

"You can use a blender, works just as good."

Once the consistency of the meat is as smooth as it can get, generously season it with salt and pepper.

Now, it's time to shape.

He said: "The key to shaping your nuggets is to keep your hands wet so it doesn’t stick to you".

He joked that he made some "McDonald's" shapes as well as "some dinosaur ones", and even suggests making some the shape of a country.

After popping the tray of McNuggets into the freezer for two hours, he starts making the dry mixture.

In one big bowl he creates the 'dry mix' and in the other a 'wet mix'.

Dry Mix Ingredients

  • Flour
  • Cornstarch
  • Onion Powder
  • Garlic Powder
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Wet Mix Ingredients

  • Egg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch

He then explains: “Once your nuggets are hard we’re going to go dry, wet, dry, wet.”

Once he's prepared both the wet and dry mixture, he heats a large pan with quite a bit of oil - enough for a nugget to be submerged in.

He waits until it is hot and bubbling when he dips a chopstick into it, before he adds the nuggets.

Fry the chicken nuggets for two minutes on each side in a pan of hot oil (TikToc)

He said: “Make sure they don’t stick to each other, fry them about two minutes each side.

“Take them out and you got chicken McNuggets.”

He places them on a plate lined with a paper towel to rid them of any leftover oil and they're done.

Joshuah has also recreated the McChicken burger which as received 4.1million views.
