Aug. 06--McDonald's: We're not lovin' it when it comes to your campaign to have customers create an "iconic Chicagoland" burger.
Take a gander at the new contest on the chain's site, and you'll see your options to build a burger that supposedly sums up Chicago in a bite; among them, processed buns, processed cheese and the paper-thin beef patties you find on a standard McDonald's burger (your only choice for meat, although you can pick from one, two or three of them -- yippee).
The Tribune's Food Dining team powwowed to come up with the ingredients we would use to create a burger that represents Chicago. It took us all of 30 seconds to come up with about a hundred better options. Our final picks, below:
(Note: We know it's not realistic to expect McDonald's to source Labriola buns and Allen Brothers meat, but the point is: Don't run a contest that you have to lame out on.)
The Iconic Chicago Burger
-- Bun from Labriola
-- Beef from Allen Brothers
-- Cheese from Pastoral
-- Tomatoes from Growing Home
-- Giardiniera from J.P. Graziano's
