McDonald's explains why its menu is limited after reopening some stores

McDonald's has explained why it is operating a limited menu, as it reopened stores across the UK over last two weeks.

The chain opened 39 branches this week, and 15 last week - all of which are operating drive thru services only.

It is not running a full menu though, with only limited foods available.

And now McDonald's has shared details as to why this is.

In an email sent out to customers, it said it only offering a limited menu because some foods can be difficult for workers to make while they maintain social distancing rules in the kitchen.

McDonald's UK chief executive Paul Pomroy says: "These are two menu items that often create additional traffic in certain parts of the kitchen and we need more time to ensure that we can bring them back to you, without impacting the safety measures we have put in place.

"I know it is disappointing if these are your usual favourites, but in light of the challenges we are all facing, I really appreciate your understanding of the restrictions and changes that we have implemented to help keep you and our people safe."

Customers can still order popular foods like McNuggets, Happy Meals and Big Macs, although shakes and wrap are off limits.

A spokesperson for McDonald's says the chain will add more items to its menu 'over the coming weeks'.
