McDonald's explains why it has removed popular items from its menu after reopening

When it comes to businesses reopening post-lockdown it's safe to say McDonald's is the one causing much excitement and anticipation among fans.

Currently, there are no McDonald's open in Merseyside, however CEO Paul Pomroy wrote to fans last week to promise he had not forgotten about the North and any other areas yet to see drive-thrus reopen.

From what we know about the McDonald's branches which have reopened in other parts of the country there are big differences customers can expect.

This includes restaurants being drive-thru or delivery through UberEats, a £25 order limit per car and a limited menu, meaning you may find some of your favourites may no longer be available.

In his lengthy email to fans, Paul Pomroy also explained the reasoning behind offering a reduced menu, and how his team decided which items to remove and keep.

He said: "When deciding the reopening menu, we took the decision to remove any items that might be challenging for our our teams to make while maintaining social distancing in the kitchen – for example, wraps and Shakes.

"These are two menu items that often create additional traffic in certain parts of the kitchen and we need more time to ensure that we can bring them back to you, without impacting the safety measures we have put in place.

"I know it is disappointing if these are your usual favourites, but in light of the challenges we are all facing, I really appreciate your understanding of the restrictions and changes that we have implemented to help keep you and our people safe."

An announcement is expected this week regarding the reopening date of its Liverpool drive-thrus.
