McDonald's drive-thru on edge of Belfast gets approval

A new McDonald's at the edge of Belfast and Lisburn has been given planning approval.

The new drive-thru restaurant in Derriaghy will create 65 jobs.

It will be built at the City Business Park near the Oakwood Integrated Primary School.

A McDonald's spokesman said: "We can confirm that we have successful received planning approval for a new drive-thru restaurant on McKinstry Road, Derriaghy which will create at least 65 jobs in the area.

"We are excited to be progressing with this opportunity and the significant investment it will bring to the local community."

SDLP Councillor Brian Heading told Belfast Live: "I welcome the employment opportunities these jobs will bring but 130 jobs are hanging in the balance at Harland and Wolff and more within its supply chain.

"We lack a economic strategy to create well paid and productive jobs."

Approval was granted by Lisburn and Castlereagh council.
