McDonald's Christmas menu: we tried McDonald's new Double Big Mac and it was a disaster

McDonald’s Christmas menu arrived in stores today, and we took the opportunity to taste test some of the items available.

Among the new festive items is McDonald’s biggest ever burger, the Double Big Mac , as well as the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich and the chain’s hugely popular Cheese Melt Dippers.

We took the time to taste test some of the items today, and here’s what we thought.

The Double Big Mac

Rating: 2/10

This burger is HUGE, making it difficult to handle and almost impossible to eat.

It arrived looking fairly similar to the standard Big Mac, but once it came time to pick it up it began falling apart and was fairly difficult to manoeuvre.

The burger was very dry, with little of the Big Mac sauce we’ve all come to know. This meant that on top of trying to keep the burger together, each bite was drier than the next.

We’ll be sticking to regular Big Macs from now on.

Jamaican Jerk Chicken Sandwich

Rating: 6/10

This burger was much tastier, with a great Jamaican jerk sauce that was sweet, tangy and not too spicy.

The bun was soft and unseeded, which made a nice change from the standard McDonald’s burger bun.

However, the burger was incredibly messy and was once again hard to keep together.

The burger is made using two chicken strips, so it was hard to keep all the toppings from falling off completely, though the zesty flavour and added texture of the cheese did make up for this

Cheese Melt Dippers

Rating: 10/10

Thank you, McDonald’s for bringing these back to the menu. Can they be made permanent please?

The cheese melt dippers arrived piping hot and as Christmassy as ever. Paired with tangy tomato sauce was definitely the redeeming item on the menu.

Celebrations McFlurry

Rating: 7/10

What a time to be alive. McDonald’s has clearly stepped up its McFlurry game for Christmas.

The festive McFlurry is definitely a step in the right direction, but the chocolate to sauce ratio definitely needs some work.

The McDonald’s Christmas menu runs until December 29.
