McDonald's customers use self-service screen 'hack' to get a free burger

McDonald's customers have used a self-service screen 'hack' to score a free hamburger - and they've exposed the trick in a viral video.

The little-known hack allows burger lovers to eat for free at the fast food chain, although social media users have warned against using the trick.

Two friends put it to the test as they punched in their order on a self-service screen at a McDonald's restaurant in Australia.

In video posted on Reddit at the weekend, the pals ordered ten $1 burgers without any patties, and one regular $1 burger that ended up being free thanks to the fast food 'hack'.

Man embarrasses family and baffles McDonald's staff by gobbling up fake burger

Every patty-less burger the pair ordered cost negative 10 cents, bringing their order to negative $1.

The regular hamburger brought the order to $0 and was free.

Video shows the pair confirming their order and printing out a receipt which says they don't have to pay for their food.

In the footage, one of the men says: “We’re here at Maccas. We’re here and we want the dollar hamburger, right?

“We want ten of them. We have a vegetarian friend. So we’ll have ten of these."

The man selects 10 burgers that are on a $1 menu.

He says: “And we’ll customise them, so we don’t want a regular beef patty.

“We’re just gonna add a regular one because I like my meat.

“So that’s ten patty-less burgers and one regular hamburger."

Now laughing, the man adds: “When it gets to this screen we find that all the patty-less burgers had $1.10 taken off them so they’re all negative ten cents, and there’s our regular burger which is just a buck, leaving the total at zero dollars.

“No payments needed for the order.”

The video ends with the men showing off their order and laughing.

Many thought it was a lot of effort to go to just to get a free burger (Reddit)

While some Reddit users thought it was ingenious, others called all of the patty-less burgers a waste of food.

One user wrote: "At the end of the day though, you only wanted the real cheeseburger. That's a lot of effort to save $1."

Another added: "Personally, I'd advise against trying to rip-off a multinational on its own premises under the full view of CCTV."
