McDonald's customers claim staff 'endangered lives' while working at Scots drive-thru

Fast-food fans have claimed McDonald’s staff “endangered lives” by not adhering to social distancing guidelines.

About 50 drive-thrus reopened in the past week, with bosses saying new rules – including perspex screens, face coverings and gloves – would be introduced.

Thousands flocked to get their fast food fix, after 11 weeks.

But our exclusive pictures show McDonald’s staff working without PPE and failing to observe social-distancing rules.

Two members of staff were photographed with no PPE at the branch in Stevenston, Ayrshire.

The pair stood shoulder to shoulder, before going to the car windows of customers to take orders, just inches from their faces.

A customer said: “It’s ridiculous. It’s absolutely staggering they have not only been working without PPE to protect themselves but are also endangering themselves and every other customer who goes through the drive-thru.

“Everyone knows you can carry Covid-19 and not display symptoms.

“But when I went through, the guy serving me came right up to my window – he was 6in away from me at most.

“If he has come in to contact with someone who had it, then there’s a really good chance I could have caught
it.

"When he left my vehicle, he started larking about with his colleague, who also didn’t have any PPE on.

“What makes it even more ridiculous is that the woman passing me my food through the window was protected by a screen and had a mask on.

“So the staff who are 2m away have PPE but the ones who are face to face with us didn’t.”

Another Ayrshire burger fan added: “I honestly couldn’t believe what I saw. Not only did they have no PPE, they didn’t even seem worried about whether they could be passing the virus on or catching it from someone else.

“I came into contact with four members of staff – three without PPE and one with.”

McDonald’s said: “We have only been open for three days and our teams and delivery partners are still getting used to our new safety procedures. We have been in touch with the restaurant to help them adjust to social-distancing and our new safety procedures.”
