McDonald's confirm big change to opening hours this month

McDonald’s is making a big change to its opening hours over the Christmas period, in order to give staff a break.

The fast food chain will be closing early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and opening late on Boxing Day, reports the Mirror .

The news comes after McDonald’s updated customers on how the new tiered lockdown restrictions would affect restaurants, with the chain remaining open for takeaway, drive-thru and delivery until 11pm even in the highest risk areas.

Apart from three specific days, that is.

Paul Pomroy, McDonald’s UK chief executive, said: "I know many of you will be looking forward to visiting one of our restaurants over the festive season to enjoy your McDonald’s favourites.

"Given the extraordinary year we’ve all had, we will balance being there for you when you need us with giving our people some additional time off with their loved ones.

"This means that some of our restaurants may close a little earlier on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, and open a little later on Boxing Day."

While there are no specifics yet on which branches will be changing their opening times, we’ll let you know as soon as we do..

Pomroy added: "We will keep our website and the My McDonald’s app updated with our latest opening hours and services."

McDonald’s made another big change this week too, with the return of some classic Happy Meal toys available in the run up to Christmas.
