McDonald's Coatbridge donate £7000 to St Andrew's Hospice

McDonald's Coatbridge have made a meaty contribution to St Andrew's Hospice.

Together with their franchisee Alan Halliday, the town's restaurants donated £7000 to the Airdrie charity, which provides specialist palliative care to people living with life-limiting illnesses.

The fantastic act of kindness was made possible by the newly launched McDonald’s in the Community Foundation, set up by 16 Scottish McDonald’s franchisees, and the country's 20 McDonald’s-owned restaurants.

The Foundation provides a central hub to help distribute funds, raised by the 10p carrier bag charge, to different charities and organisations across Scotland.

McDonald’s franchisee Alan Halliday, who owns and operates two Coatbridge restaurants and others in Motherwell and Bellshill, told Lanarkshire Live : “Supporting our local community is of upmost importance to my team and I, which is why I was so pleased to see the McDonald’s in the Community Foundation officially launch this year.

"It means that each restaurant group can make meaningful contributions to charities in the communities that we operate in.

"St Andrews Hospice is a fantastic organisation, relied on by many local people for many years. We are so pleased to be able to help keep its great work going with this donation.”

Lorna McCafferty, trusts, legacy and individual giving manager at St Andrew's Hospice, said: “We’re so grateful to McDonald’s and Alan Halliday for this generous contribution.

"The funds will go towards our Hearty Hospice Meals project for our patients living within the Lanarkshire community, and new equipment for our inpatient unit.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with McDonald’s and supporting the local community together.”

To date, proceeds from the 10p carrier bag charge across Scotland McDonald’s restaurants has been donated to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) UK.

Donations totalled £3.9 million by 2021 and went towards building the brand new RMHC House in Edinburgh.
