McDonald's closed after car bursts into flames at drive-thru of Scots branch

A McDonald’s in Elgin has been forced to close after a car burst into flames at the drive-thru.

The fire at the branch on Linkwood Place on Saturday night left the car completely destroyed.

There was also extensive damage to the fast-food restaurant’s exterior.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to the fire at about 11pm last night.

Three fire engines were in attendance, with two breathing apparatus, two hose jets and a thermal image camera.

They stood down at 11.38pm while police cordoned off the area.

Officers remain in attendance at the scene.

Staff at the branch released a statement on Facebook saying the store would be shut until further notice.

The post said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances the store will be shut until further notice.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
