McDonald's clarifies Eat Out to Help Out rules and prices after confusion

McDonald's has clarified its position with the government's new Eat Out to Help Out initiative after some customers have expressed confusion over the scheme.

The chain is one of over 70,000 establishments registered for the initiative, which takes place throughout August, and allows customers to get 50 per cent off menu prices on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday when they dine in.

McDonald's fans were further delighted to find out their half price food was even cheaper thanks to VAT cuts, but despite the discounts some people have been left disappointed.

Many trying to get a £1.69 Bic Mac or a hamburger for 44p were left gutted, due to confusion over the rules, reports Manchester Evening News.

This is because the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is only applied to orders made when dining inside a restaurant, not Drive Thru, Takeaway, or McDelivery.

The fast-food chain has been inundated with questions on social media, so has now issued a clear message on Twitter.

In response to one person asking "where's my half price food?", the fast food chain set the record straight.

McDonald's wrote: "We are participating in the Government's Eat Out To Help Out scheme.

"This scheme only applies when you Dine in at a participating branch. This does not apply for Drive Thru, Takeaway, or McDelivery."
