McDonald's breakfast menu is back - here's how to find a McMuffin in Edinburgh today

McDonald's have brought back their much-loved breakfast menu from today (Wednesday) in stores across the UK, but one Edinburgh restaurant will miss out.

The fast food giant has put breakfast back on the menu after it was forced to close due to the coronavirus crisis. Whilst stores have returned for takeaway in Scotland, they have been working on a limited menu.

Whilst fans of the chain were glad to see it return, many were left disappointed when they realised the breakfast menu wouldn't be coming back straight away.

But from today, 8 July, you'll be able to pick up a breakfast snack at most of the chain's Edinburgh restaurants.

A McDonald's spokeswoman told Daily Mirror : " We have seen such a brilliant reaction to breakfast in the first 42 restaurants, the return of the McMuffin is proving incredibly popular.

"We are therefore delighted to confirm that over 1,250 restaurants will add breakfast to the menu from tomorrow."

Customers are asked to check the store locator or app in case opening times have changed.

The fast food chain had been undertaking a trial at a limited number of restaurants, to make sure staff could serve up the menu safely and observe social distancing and other public health rules.

However, the full breakfast menu won't be back quite yet: "Our menu will still be limited, we will unfortunately not be serving bagels, wraps or porridge for now.

"Our opening hours continue to vary, the quickest way to check your local restaurant will be via the My McDonald’s App, where new users can also get a free coffee upon registration," the statement added.

The company said restaurants would have sign posting and floor marking to help ensure social distancing, and in Scotland you will only be able to order for takeaway for the moment.

As with any other shop, a limited number of people will be allowed inside at one time, and self order screens will be sanitised every 30 minutes, the company said.

Nicola Sturgeon is due to update the Scottish Parliament on Thursday about whether Scotland is ready to move into phase three of coronavirus recovery.

Such a move would see indoor hospitality return.

The Daily Mirror reported that in Edinburgh, the McDonalds restaurant in Asda will be one of the few not serving the reintroduced breakfast menu.
