McDonald's apologises to woman after veggie wrap had chicken inside

McDonald's has apologised after a student who has been vegetarian for her entire life was a served chicken - in a veggie wrap.

Evie Topping said she was left "fumin" after ordering food at one of the fast food giant's branches in Nottingham city centre.

She ordered the veggie wrap at around 8pm on November 29. It was supposed to consist of a veggie goujon, shredded lettuce and tomato ketchup, wrapped up in a toasted tortilla, reports Nottinghamshire Live.

But Evie and her friend Simone, 23, were shocked to see pieces of chicken inside the wrap instead.

The 22-year-old tweeted a video of the wrap, saying it had ruined her and Simone's 20-plus years of being vegetarian - then added some smiley faces and said she was "fumin".

McDonald's has apologised and said it will send her some vouchers "as soon as possible".

A spokesperson added staff will now make "every effort to make sure that such problems do not happen again."

They said: "Many apologies for your upset and distress.

"To help make up for your experience and to say sorry that it didn't meet your expectations, we would like to send you some vouchers towards a meal which you can use at any of our UK restaurants."

However Evie, a Masters student at Nottingham Trent University, told Nottinghamshire Live it was "pretty bad" that they had just offered her vouchers.

She has also asked for the value of her original meal to be refunded.
