McDonald's announce exact date it will begin reopening Scottish restaurants for walk-ins - this month

McDonald's fans proved their loyalty last week by queuing up for hours just to get their hands on their favourite fast food.

Now, the Big Mac chain have announced plans for the next stage in reopening its restaurants - and won't need a car this time.

The fast food giant are set to roll out a phased reopening for walk-in takeaway and click and collect orders this month.

Initially, only 11 pilot Roadchef service station restaurants will open for for walk-in takeaway on Wednesday 17 June.

But this will gradually be rolled out to high street, town and city centre restaurants across the UK and Ireland, from Wednesday 24 June.

McDonald’s UK & Ireland CEO Paul Pomroy said:

"Over the last four weeks, we have carefully reopened over 1,000 restaurants for drive-thru or McDelivery, only progressing to new channels and more restaurants when we were confident that we could provide a safe working environment for our people.

"Following a closed test in London last month, I am pleased to confirm that we will begin reopening for takeaway and click and collect. Starting on Wednesday 17 June, in 11 Roadchef service station locations, we will welcome motorway users back inside our restaurants for the first time since March.

"We’re taking our time to get this right, reviewing our processes before we gradually roll-out to high streets, towns and city centres from 24 June onwards."

There will be a number of coronavirus safety measures in place when the restaurants reopen to walk-in customers, including floor-markings to create a one-way system.

Only a certain number of customers will be inside the restaurants at one time and people will be asked to sanitise hands at new cleaning stations.
