McDonald's aims to reopen all drive-thru restaurants by early June - and these are the rules

Fast food giant McDonald's has announced it aims to reopen all drive-thru restaurants by early June.

A total of 30 will reopen as part of a drive-thru pilot across the UK and Ireland on May 20 - although locations have yet to be revealed.

To ensure staff safety, fewer employees will be working on each shift with new social distancing rules in place.

A reduced menu will be served over reduced hours, from 11am to 10pm.

Contactless payment will be encouraged with a maximum spend of £25.

The chain tweeted: "With fewer people in our kitchens there may be longer wait times, so we ask that you kindly bear with us during our pilot.

"We aim to reopen all drive-thrus by early June as we learn from our employees, franchisees, suppliers and customers and adjust to the new procedures in place to help keep our restaurant teams safe."

Tomorrow, in a delivery-only pilot, 15 restaurants in the south east of England will reopen.
