McDonald's adding Spicy Chicken McNuggets and Chips Ahoy! McFlurry to menu

McDonald’s has announced two new additions to its menu in the US.

On Tuesday, the fast food chain confirmed that, from 16 September, it will be offering a fiery version of its classic nuggets: Spicy Chicken McNuggets.

McDonald's states that the new take on the traditional nugget is the US fast food chain’s first-ever variation of the iconic menu item since its inception in 1983 and will only be available for a limited time only.

The Spicy Chicken McNuggets will be made using a tempura coating featuring plenty of cayenne and chilli peppers, and will also come with the new Mighty Hot Sauce – the chain’s first new dipping sauce since 2017 – which is a blend of crushed red pepper, spicy chillies, and garlic.

“This is the first time we’ve introduced a new flavour of our classic Chicken McNuggets in the US since they came to menus in 1983,” said Linda VanGosen, vice president of menu innovation.

“As our customers have been asking for Spicy McNuggets for some time now, we couldn’t think of a better time to bring them to our menus. We can’t wait for McNuggets fans to get a taste of these new spicy options.”

But, that’s not all. To cool off customers’ taste buds, McDonald’s is also launching a brand new McFlurry made in collaboration with Chips Ahoy!

The Chips Ahoy! McFlurry will feature chunky bits of cookie pieces blended into McDonald’s familiar creamy vanilla soft serve, and come topped with light caramel swirls.

Both the McDonald’s Spicy Chicken McNuggets and Chips Ahoy! McFlurry are set to launch across the US on 16 September for a limited time only.

Customers in the UK will be no stranger to the fast food chain’s Spicy Chicken McNuggets, which first launched in August 2019 before making a brief reappearance in January 2020.

The Independent has contacted McDonald’s UK to find out whether the new additions will also be returning to British menus in due course.
