McDonald's: $1 mozzarella sticks to be added to menu in 2016

McDonald’s-goers in America will soon be able to order mozzarella sticks after it was announced it would become the fast food chain's latest menu item.

Stores across the US will sell three of the deep-fried snack for $1 from 2016.

Following a launch in New York stores this year, the nationwide launch is seen as an example of McDonald’s move to trial new products in regional franchises before expanding them nationwide.

“While we know the vast majority of our growth will come from national initiatives, regional empowerment has given our local markets the power to plus up the national plan, drive incremental sales and profit, and provide a pipeline of new ideas for the system,” said Mike Andres, president of McDonald’s USA, announcing the news in an investor meeting on Tuesday.

Fast food fans were quick to voice their thoughts on the new menu addition.

Mozzarella sticks are the third large-scale menu announcement from McDonald's in recent times. Following the first positive quarter for growth in nearly two years, the fast food chain has announced plans to serve all-day breakfast and trial sweet potato fries in a number of its restaurants in Texas.
