Ally McCoist has branded the decision to appoint Kevin Thelwell's son to a key post at Rangers as "bizarre".
The Ibrox hero offered his reaction on TNT Sports as he slammed the "appalling" recruitment at Rangers in recent years.
We revealed earlier this week that Robbie Thelwell has been recruited as head of player recruitment at the Govan club.
Rangers sources say Thelwell attracted interest from Premier League clubs in England and that his appointment marks the conclusion of a thorough recruitment process.
Thelwell has been head of technical scouting and loan management at English Championship side Norwich City since July 2024.
McCoist said on TNT of Rangers recruitment: "The recruitment has been appalling, and it is not just this season or last season."
Asked for his take on the news of Thelwell's imminent arrival at Rangers, he said: "All I would say is, I don't know the lad. I wish him all the best.
"But from where I am sitting, it is bizarre."

Returning his focus to transfer failings at Ibrox, McCoist added: "Statistically, just look at Rangers' signings in recent seasons...
"The one I find staggering, they pay £4.5m for [Oscar] Cortes and then put him out on loan.
"That is absolutely unacceptable.
"I mentioned to you before about Chermitti. I hope the lad scores 200 or 300 goals for Rangers, I really hope that is the case.
"But that is some gamble for someone who hasn't scored in two years and only started three or four games and played 300 minutes.
"What a gamble that is."
