MCC will throw out members guilty of abuse

The MCC have reminded their 23,000 members of the behaviour that is expected of them at Lord’s with a new code of conduct brought in following a pair of alleged incidents last year.

It was introduced at Wednesday’s AGM, when a woman claimed she had been assaulted in the Pavilion, while a man said he had received anti-Semitic abuse. MCC published the code of conduct on the Lord’s website this morning and those who do not adhere to it will face expulsion from the club.

It read: “Cricket owes much of its appeal and enjoyment to the fact that it should be played not only according to the laws but also within the spirit of cricket.

“Cricket encourages leadership, friendship and teamwork, which brings together people from different nationalities, cultures and religions. In the same way, the MCC expects that members respect each other, the club, Lord’s and all who visit or work there.

“Any failure to show respect will render a member liable to expulsion or suspension.”
