MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association was left laughing its way to the bank after the first ODI between India and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
According to sources, the MCA earned a whopping Rs 5.30 crore from the ticket sales of the first ODI between India and Australia at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday-the highest ever amount it has ever generated from this source of income, for an international game. The association also made Rs 2.5 crores from in-stadia advertising.
Hosting an ODI for the first time in three years, the Wankhede was packed on Saturday.
"We sold 26,601 tickets for the match. Normally, we sell entire corporate boxes, but this time, we sold individual tickets worth Rs 15,000 for a seat in the corporate box. We sold tickets for 40 corporate boxes. We also put up a few tickets of the grandstand for online sale this time," a source in the MCA told TOI.
The match was attended by superstar 'Thalaiva' Rajinikanth, who was accompanied by his wife Latha. Seated beside the actor were Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar, and MCA president Amol Kale.
