MCA launches Corporate Trophy

MUMBAI: With an aim to secure jobs for professional cricketers in the city, the Mumbai Cricket Association on Thursday announced the launch of the Corporate Trophy for the 2021-2022 local cricket season on its website.

The MCA has invited entries for the tournament from interested public and private sector companies. The entry fees for the tournament would be Rs 5000 plus 18 % GST. The MCA will take care of all the expenses-ground, umpire, scorer, ball, for the event. The Corporate Trophy's matches will be played on the weekdays only. The last date for filing entry into the tournament is Friday, December 3. The association will announce the dates of the tournament after finding a suitable window for it.

"It's a good initiative for Mumbai cricket. By launching this tournament, we're expecting that cricketers will get good job opportunities," MCA secretary Sanjay Naik told TOI on Friday.

Criteria for teams participating in the above tournament would be on the basis of Times Cricket Shield-the traditional local cricket tournament that the Times Group organises for office teams. Teams which do not participate in Times Cricket Shield Tournament, but are interested to play in the MCA Corporate Trophy will be grouped in the 'G' Division. Each team will get three league matches.

The tournament will involve the participation of 184 teams, which will be divided into seven divisions. A Division games will be played in the two-day format, B in one-day, and the rest in T20 format. Teams in the A & B Division will be allowed to field nine 'Outstation and scholarship players' in their XI. C & D Division teams can play six such players, and F Division two. No such players will be allowed in the G Division.
