MCA becomes first association to launch digital registration platform for players

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Monday became the first cricket association in the country to launch a digital registration platform for its players, claiming that it’s the first cricket association in the country to do so.

“The MCA has become the first cricket association in India to launch a digital platform for the registration of its players. Now, Mumbai’s players can log into the website and register themselves with the MCA sitting anywhere in the world. They just have to come to the MCA office just once, for verification of their documents, after which they will be given a smartcard (earlier, players used to get an I-card),” MCA secretary Sanjay Naik told TOI.

“If a player wants to change his club, he can apply for it digitally,” he added. Earlier, the players had to ‘physically’ fill a registration form and submit it to the MCA.

Kanga League from August 29

Meanwhile, the MCA announced on its website that it plans to commence the Kanga League — Mumbai’s traditional monsoon cricket tournament, from August 29, subject to state government permissions regarding resumption of team sports. A national lockdown and covid restrictions meant that the Kanga League could not be played last year.

“The association is glad to announce that Dr HD Kanga Cricket League 2021-2022 will commence from 29th August 2021 subject to government approval. The Knotty Points meeting for the same will be held on Wednesday,” Naik and MCA jt secretary Shahalam Shaikh said in a notice on the MCA website. The Knotty Points meeting, held before every edition of the Kanga League to finalise the rules and regulations of the tournament, will be held in a staggered manner from 2 pm (‘A’ division) to 6.30 pm (‘G’ Division).
