A portable medical facility that can test large numbers of people for the novel coronavirus at stadiums and other event venues was unveiled to the press in Yokohama on Thursday.
The MC-Cube testing facility was developed by medical equipment maker Canon Medical Systems Corp. in Otawara, Tochigi Prefecture, and Sansei Corp. in Yokohama.
Testing is done using the LAMP method, which gives results in a short time. One part of the cargo container-like facility has eight compartments for collecting samples. It is connected to a separate container where the tests are processed.
A single set of these containers can test about 1,000 people a day. The companies anticipate that MC-Cube systems will be used at stadiums and in areas affected by disasters.
Results of the tests are available in about 30 minutes and are provided to the person who was tested by e-mail.
A Canon Medical Systems official said: "We are receiving an increasing number of inquiries from sports organizations and medical institutions. We would like to increase the number of containers to meet their needs."
