May 07--Floyd Mayweather Jr. told Showtime's Jim Gray in a follow-up interview to his Saturday night victory over Manny Pacquiao that he could not detect during the bout that Pacquiao had suffered a shoulder injury.
"Absolutely not," Mayweather told Gray in the conversation that will air as part of Showtime's "Inside Mayweather vs. Pacquiao: Epilogue," which will follow a replay of the bout, Saturday at 9 p.m.
"He was fast. His left hand was fast. His right hand was fast, and he was throwing them both fast and strong.
"Excuses, excuses, excuses. ... I'm not going to buy into the bull--- ... and I don't want the public to buy into the bull--. He lost. He knows he lost. I lost a lot of respect for him after all of this."
Pacquiao has said he never wanted to divulge his right shoulder injury that required rotator cuff surgery Wednesday in Los Angeles, but after his promoter, Bob Arum, told reporters about it, he answered follow-up questions. Pacquiao said he suffered a shoulder injury April 4 while sparring and aggravated it in the fourth round of his defeat.
Mayweather (48-0), who defeated Pacquiao by judges' scores of 118-110, 116-112, 116-112, Saturday night in their long-anticipated bout at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, also said he's changed his mind about a Pacquiao rematch after texting a reporter that he would consider a bout versus Pacquiao a year from now.
"Did I text [the reporter] and say I will fight him again? Yeah, but I changed my mind," Mayweather said. "At this particular time, no, because he's a sore loser and he's a coward... If you lost, accept the loss and say, 'Mayweather, you were the better fighter.' "
In an interview Wednesday, Pacquiao manager Michael Koncz said, "On May 2, Manny did the best he can do, and Floyd was a little better and deserves to enjoy his victory."
