Maytrees and Eastville GP surgeries reopen but reason for closure still unknown

Two Eastville surgeries have now reopened after being placed into lockdown earlier this week.

Both the Maytrees and Eastville medical practices, based at East Trees Health Centre in Fishponds Road, were shut completely yesterday (February 12) due to "unforeseen circumstances".

Patients seeking urgent medical care were advised to visit the walk-in centre in Broadmead or call 111 instead.

Both practices reopened today (February 13) but management at the health centre have refused to comment on why the closure happened in the first place.

One sign on the front of the health centre yesterday warned patients the building was an "isolation area" and not to enter to "help stop the spread of infection".

The sign read: "Isolation area - no unauthorised entry.

"Please speak to a member of staff before entering this area.

"Help stop the spread of infection. Thank you."

Another sign during the closure read: "Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to close the Health Centre.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Despite the entire health centre being closed to the public, management at Maytrees Medical Practice refused to comment on why it was closed all of yesterday.

No one was available to comment at the Eastville medical practice.

Like yesterday, a spokesman for the NHS Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire CCG said it was unable to say why the surgeries had been closed.

He added it was a matter for the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

When asked if the closure was linked to coronavirus, a DHSC spokesperson previously said: “We will not be providing rolling updates on possible cases."
