Mayor of London Sadiq Khan makes plea to Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and others

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has penned a letter to London's Premier League sides asking for their doctors and medical staff to join the NHS' fight against coronavirus.

That's according to a report in the Mail, which claims Khan sent the letter requesting support on Tuesday, in what is being described as a historic move.

The report claims the Mayor has asked for three different areas of help, as the capital continues to battle the Covid-19 pandemic.

Khan would like doctors, physios and other clinically-trained staff to assist the NHS as they continue to treat the public.

Premier League players could isolate together to complete season

Khan is asking for key equipment from training grounds, with mobile catering facilities such as food heaters and refrigerators, the most sought after.

While the Mayor is also asking clubs to help provide accommodation for key NHS workers unable to stay at home due to the outbreak.

The Mail claim there is a keen desire among the clubs to assist, and although each club has registered a club doctor for their first team, sides may opt to send academy medical staff instead, should the Premier League restart over the coming weeks.

Chelsea were one of the first clubs in football to respond to the outbreak, opening the doors of the Millennium Hotel at Stamford Bridge to NHS staff for an initial two-month period.

Other clubs across the country have also offered their help over the last week.

And several players have also made offers of help amid the coronavirus pandemic, including Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld and Chelsea's Christian Pulisic.
