Mayor Johnson suspends C-charge for the day

The Mayor has just issued a statement about the "exceptional" weather conditions. Significant points: suspending the C-charge for the day as a "gesture of appreciation" to those who came in by car and expressing pride in the "limited" bus service now running. Here's the whole thing:

I want to thank all Londoners who made an exceptional effort to get the capital moving today. Having travelled in by bike this morning I know how difficult conditions are. I especially want to thank those who have worked to get tube services running, clear the roads and, I am proud to say, have now got a limited bus service running.

As a gesture of my appreciation for those who have travelled to work this morning I have instructed TFL to suspend the congestion charge today. These are some of the most challenging weather conditions we have faced in London in two decades. I have been liaising since dawn with the Transport Commissioner, London Fire Brigade and the police.

It is vital that we all pull together and pool resources to get London through this difficult situation. With further snow due this afternoon I urge everyone to consider how they will be traveling home and check the latest updates from TFL.

The safety of the city and its inhabitants is my overriding concern. I urge Londoners to check on elderly neighbours and others who are vulnerable in these freezing temperatures. I want to assure everyone that we are doing everything we can to get the capital moving and keep Londoners safe.

It's on the website too and Helene has lots more.
