A woman is taking on a gruelling challenge of running for 24-hours straight to help her local club to raise enough money to build a 200-metre athletics track.
Anne Jennings will take on the mammoth task of completing 100-miles in her hometown by circling an 800-metre walking circuit at The Green in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.
The interior designer will begin her fundraiser at 4pm on December 27 and run throughout the night - with the aim of providing a fundings boost for the E300,000 project.
Anne, a married mum of two in her early 40s, said: “It’s great to be able to do something to help out and to be part of something like this; I can always say I helped and contributed to that track in there.
“The Lake District Athletics Club were trying to do fundraising and I was quite conscious that it’s very hard times with Covid restrictions to any type of fundraising because most of those type of events are social.
“And I had been training hard for a race myself all year and that was cancelled so I kind of said I’ve put in a lot of training so maybe we could utilise my training and do something positive.
“It will be a fantastic resource and I think Covid has taught a lot of people to appreciate being outdoors and to appreciate being active.”
Anne said the club has more than 200 members and she will be able to avail of drinks and snacks during the event.
