Mayo legend Andy Moran retires from inter-county football

Mayo legend Andy Moran has announced that he has retired from inter-county football after 182 appearances in a 16-year career.

The Ballaghaderreen man won a National League medal as well as eight Connacht titles during his time with his county, but could never break the 'Mayo Curse' and pick up an All-Ireland Championship.

Speaking to Richie Sadlier's on Second Captains, Moran said: "My career is finished as of yesterday really.

"I had a conversation with James yesterday, I let him know that it was finished, I'm now re-focusing and my mind is clear.

"I left the whatsapp groups last night with some great friends, some great memories. It sounds silly but that was the toughest moment of the lot."

Moran was named Footballer of the Year in 2017 at the age of 33 after gaining his second All Star that same year.

His first All Star came in 2011.
