Mayo GAA legend Conor Mortimer moves into football management ahead of 2021 season

Mayo legend Conor Mortimer has made the move into football management ahead of the 2021 season.

The former star forward has been ratified as manager of Kildare GAA club Monasterevan's senior football team ahead of the 2021 season.

The Green and Red great won four Connacht titles as well as an All Star award in 2006 during a successful inter-county career, during which he was on the losing side in two All-Ireland finals.

During his playing days, he represented his native Shrule-Glencorrib as well as Parnells in Dublin at club level.

The 38-year-old now joins up with the Kildare club, who currently play in Division Two of the county's football league as well as the Kildare SFC.

The club have been senior county champions on three occasions, most recently in 1977, but were crowned Kildare Intermediate Football Champions in 2019.

Monasterevan announced the appointment on social media on Monday night.

They tweeted: “Monasterevan GFC are proud to announce that former Mayo footballer Conor Mortimer has been ratified tonight as our Senior Football Manager for 2021.

“We wish @ConorMort and the team the best of luck for the year ahead.”
