Mayo fans devastated as Matthew Ruane sees red to condemn side to another All-Ireland loss

Mayo fans were left devastated as Matthew Ruane's late red card condemned the side to yet another All-Ireland final loss.

Mayo lost their sixth All-Ireland final since 2012 as they yet again failed to climb the steps of the Hogan Stand.

Super sub Cathal McShane and star forward Darren McCurry scored second half goals as Tyrone impressed with their composure in key moments.

But is was a late Matthew Ruane red card that spelled the end of Mayo's campaign with the star midfielder getting involved in a midfield scrap with Conn Kilpatrick.

The Breaffy clubman looked a frustrated figure as he appeared to swing at Kilpatrick and was sent for an early shower minutes before the end.

And Mayo fans were devastated as they took to social media.

One user wrote: "Heartbroken but Mayo did not play well, especially in the second half"

While another added: "Hats off to @TyroneGAALive Deserving winners as all Mayo’s old failings come back at worst time. Heartbroken for so many Mayo friends."

Tyrone then kicked on and held out Mayo's last gasp attacks as they won their first All-Ireland title since 2008 in front of a 41,00 strong crowd..
